Aoudad -- Shoulder height 36-40 inches. Weight 200 - 250 pounds. The aoudad is a strongly built animal, with a short mane on the neck and shoulders. Long flowing hair is found on the throat, chest, forelegs and tail. Overall coloration is sandy brown with the under parts being paler in color. The horns (both sexes) are sheep-like: smooth, thick, triangular cross section, and curved to form a semicircle over the neck. Females are lighter in color, have less hair and much smaller horns. The aoudad is native to the desert mountains in the Sahara region of northern Africa. |
