American Bison -- $2,500 Large bulls can measure 5-6 ft at the shoulder and weigh 1,600-2,000 pounds. The same horns are retained through the animal's life. Traditionally an inhabitant of grass prairies, but also occurred in open forests and mountainous areas. Once numbered in the millions, they were market hunted to the edge of extinction in the 1890's.
