Bulls stand about five feet at the shoulder and average 700 pounds.
The antlers are generally longer and slimmer with a large spread.
In natural habitat, will spend summer in high mountain meadows and
forest, and migrate downward in the fall and winter, in advance
of deep winter snows to sheltered low lands where forage is available.
Elk once roamed almost the entire North American continent. They
were hunted for their hides, meat and antlers by American settlers.
Of the six original subspecies, two were hunted to extinction by
the mid 1800's. The Rocky Mountain Elk inhabiting our ranch are
magnificent animals, regal in bearing and one of the premier game
animals of the world.
